Terramycin is an antibiotic prescribed for a range of infections, including acne, dermatitis, and gonorrhea. It is effective in treating certain bacterial infections affecting the skin, lungs, genitals, and bladder. Additionally, it is used for some cases of infectious diarrhea and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Take Terramycin orally with a full glass of water on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Refrain from lying down for 30 minutes after taking the medication. Avoid consuming milk, dairy products, or calcium-fortified juices before and after taking the drug. It is advisable to take Terramycin consistently at the same time each day. Do not abruptly discontinue Terramycin; treatment should continue for a minimum of 24–48 hours after symptoms and fever have resolved.
Terramycin may lead to diarrhea, nausea, and stomach discomfort, although these side effects are generally temporary. If diarrhea occurs, ensure you drink plenty of water to replenish lost fluids. However, if you experience severe diarrhea accompanied by intense stomach cramps or blood in your stools, notify your doctor. If you notice rashes, difficulty breathing, or swelling in your mouth or eyes, cease taking the medication and promptly inform your doctor, as these may be signs of an allergic reaction. Oxytetracycline can also increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight; therefore, it is advisable to avoid direct sun exposure or prolonged periods under ultraviolet (UV) light, such as tanning beds or sun lamps.
In the event of an overdose and if you feel unwell, seek emergency medical help or contact your healthcare provider immediately. Symptoms of Terramycin overdose include retching, diarrhea, and nausea.
Store in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children. Medications should not be used after their expiry date.
